The Arboretum in Fall

Back in October, I had the privilege of photographing a beautiful family at the National Arboretum in Washington DC. When I tell you the Arboretum has been on my list for years...suffice to say, all of us were thrilled to explore it on a pretty Fall day! As I recall, it had rained the day before so we were excited to have a great weather morning - in fact, it got pretty hot that weekend, and Javelle especially toughed it out with his heavy sweater. As I note in my Client Style Guide, layers do look good on camera but yes, they may be hot during the session itself. A small price to pay ;-)

But I'm getting ahead of myself! I met Alex, Javelle, and their adorable daughter London in the main parking lot, and we set off along the pathways. This was their first time at the Arboretum and so I spent several minutes gushing about it - the different areas, the bonsai garden, the moon walks! We had a wonderful time exploring, seeing the Capitol Columns and talking history while taking some time to simply experience the Fall foliage, which was putting on quite a show. As for London, she just loves water, and running across the fields (see below!). They are a super fun family and we discovered that we have both been to Greece - we chatted about the amazing history and architecture there, and somehow also talked about my love/hate relationship with birds. That story for another time.

For London, I broke out a tiny bottle of bubbles, and she had a great time watching them pop - and being chased! She loves to be chased, and she and Daddy had several "inside jokes" resulting in the most precious giggles! Once London had run herself out, we got some of my go-to walking photos with Alex and Javelle.

I've been meaning to get this post done for awhile because this day and these pictures were too precious not to share!

Alex, Javelle, London: I am so glad we met and got that perfect Fall weather for our session together! I love that you bring so much joy and laughter to each other.
