About a year ago, I offered to take engagement photos for dear friends, and fell head over heels in love with photographing people. I was editing their photos until the wee hours of the morning, and knew this was something I needed to pursue. Previously, I’d done mainly landscape and nature photography, not portraits. I dove into people photography blogs and courses, found mentors, and practiced again and again.

With encouragement from friends, I formally started up a business, creating this website, Facebook page, and an Instagram account. I like to reflect at the end of the year, and have plenty of highlights from 2017!

Couples Mini Shoot

This year, I offered mini sessions for charity, and together my clients and I gave $100 to UNICEF following Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. Liza and Brian were willing to let me try new locations and poses – thank you for your support!

Event Photography

With mentoring from a local photographer, I did a crash course in event photography and photographed an all-day conference. I have a new respect for event photographers! It was a lot of fun, and a lot of work.

These events are a good learning experience, though my focus will continue to be on portraiture and natural light for those dreamy looks and memories.

Engagement Session

Bekka and Loïc reached out to me for their engagement photos, and we spent a couple of hours together snapping different poses, outfits, and props. It was a blast! I have learned so much, and editing this session was a breeze. It reaffirmed that I made the right choice in starting up this year: this is just too much fun!

WWE

My final session of the year was a unique birthday party: all about wrestlers! It was a big family affair, and absolutely fun to observe. I’d met several of the family members before, and part of why I was there to capture the day was bittersweet. Michael, the young man we were celebrating, passed away not long afterwards. He had already gone through so much in his young life, and while we knew it would be soon, it’s always too soon. Still, I was glad to be part of it and to capture some fun family memories.

Thank you all for your incredible support this year as I’ve gotten off the ground. I have loved every minute of it, and am pumped for 2018!
